Should college athletes be paid?

Should college athletes be paid?

The debate about college athletes is a big issue today in the world of College sports. Should They be paid for making billions of dollars for the NCAA?

What would you say if your job told you they were going to pay you in the form of job experience and knowledge instead of money?  Would you agree to it or disagree? I’m thinking most of you would disagree with this and I don’t blame you it is unfair!! That is basically what is happening to college athletes today. They are making billions of dollar for the NCAA but getting none of it. Only some of them get scholarships or get something that benefits them. The NCAA are using the attention these kids get from the media to make revenue for themselves and the ones actually doing the work don't get anything! Yeah, some might say these athletes are taken care of and they are right they are treated like celebrities at their colleges. Most people just say that colleges offer these students free education but does free education pay for meals and clothes!!! Also it can prevent these students because that’s what they are from taking money from someone else and breaking the rules. But some Pro organizations have rules that kids can't turn pro until a certain age.  Paying college athletes would make a huge change to college athletics as we know it. Some disagree with the idea saying that the NCAA will go bankrupt if this starts happening. Others say this is a good idea because the actual stars of the entertainment will actually benefit from this and it is fair. There are a lot of reasons how this wouldn't benefit the NCAA more info on that is shown here.

There have actually been suggested solutions to this problem that might benefit both the NCAA and the players. In the 2013 NCAA Men's Basketball tournament FGCU made it all the way to the sweet sixteen which is huge for 15th seed. These accomplishment by the student athletes benefited the college a lot. High School students applying to the college almost doubled. Also why would you not want to keep your money maker in your school? Students leave college early to go pro and make money. Why not just pay them so that they can keep making you money instead of the college losing all of its revenue? Some people might disagree with the idea of paying college athlete because they are already getting paid in scholarships. Others might say the NCAA would go bankrupt. But the most common argument they have is that not all college athletes should get paid because not all of them perform at such a high level. That argument makes a lot of sense that is why there are solutions like the ones in Eddie George's blog but there are always going to be people that disagree. Why do you think colleges offer these students with a talent a free education? Their doing it because the college knows that the student can perform at a high level and make the college A LOT of money. The bad stuff that can happen with paying college athletes is that the NCAA might go bankrupt. Can you imagine how many college athletes there are in the nation? That’s a lot of money for someone who is just there to go to school and sport is just and activity.

I definitely think that some college athletes should get paid as you can tell from my blog. This really was such a biased blog on my part but I just can not help but to think how unfair of a situation it is. I would never be happy making a lot of money and never seeing any of it! Why not pay your money maker and keep him or her around longer?  I'm sure colleges hate to see their star players leave for the pros and so do their fans. Giving them a reason to stay like PAYING THEM would change this situation a lot. I understand that the player only chose that school until he could make it to the pros but if they are making money at the school it might actually persuade them to stay longer. Why not do anything to keep them happy where they are at? And keep them so the school actually gets more money?!?!? Paying college athletes would benefit the NCAA, colleges and the player. It would benefit the college because a high known player could stay and keep making them money. It also benefits the student because it well help them stay in school longer and expand their education. Plus they are getting paid doing it and that would make them really really happy. It seems like such a good idea I don't know why they just don't do it. I am pretty sure people have offered solutions to the problem it is just up to the NCAA to choose the best one or come up with a new one.

Below is a video more in depth about this issue it is from the show First Take with Stephen A Smith and Skip Bayless. ENJOY!!!!!
