Death Penalty

Death penalty has been a really big topic through out history from starting back when they chopped off peoples heads to hanging them then executing them in an electrical chair. Now the newest thing is using lethal injection but the real issue is, should death penalty be acceptable? the majority of people say yes and the rest say no its cruel and unusual. I believe that it should be acceptable but then again believe it shouldn't , why? well for example in the Columbine High School massacre two senior students murdered and killed 13 innocent people. If they had not committed suicide then they definitely did not deserve life in jail but the full punishment of the capitol punishment. There are also cases were the person is murdered in pieces and is tortured prior to being killed. In those cases the person when found guilty and having all evidence pointed to them should be put to death row. Then there are cases where the person found guilty is not guilty and theres evidence found later on which then makes me re think making death penalty acceptable. The united states over time has had new technology revelations with DNA testing that wasn't viable back in the days which can now prove a lot of cases and also now testing hair particles which can prove if the person is innocent or guilty or was wrongfully accused.. Tierney shares a story about “Henry Lee McCollum and Leon Brown who had already served 30 years in a North Carolina prison, were released after DNA evidence proved conclusively that another man was the killer”(1). Once again the author uses facts and making the audience feel guilty to reevaluate the death penalty. The author shares this story because he wants his audience yet again to think about people who are wrongfully charged that could have died. Also to show why we should not have the death penalty at all. This issue has many impacts, for example it has an impact on society and the people in it. For family members who experience first hand having a family member on death row its really hard. They may suffer through depression and many emotional things in their life because of it.  Death Penalty in reality should not be in the hands of the government.
