The Use of Renewable and Nonrenewable Energy Sources

There are many arguments about what the best and safest way to produce energy for the population. Many people persuade companies to stop the use of nuclear, oil, and coal which is very harmful for our environment. Images, videos, and TV commercials are shown to the public to persuade them to stop investing in these harmful sources of energy. The image that is selected by Joe Heller helps with the in realizing the destructive side of nonrenewable energy, but the good in wind as a renewable energy source. Showing these four arguments in one cartoon makes an effective argument about stopping the use of nuclear, oil, and coal, and the argument about why I think believe wind energy is the best solution for our planet. The overall discourse being explained is about the risks of using nonrenewable energy, and how renewable energy like wind will fix our troubles.

The image stands out with the use of color; black is being used with non-renewable energy sources to show the darkness and harmfulness in them, while the fourth energy source (wind) is drawn with bright colors that show a clean and safe environment. Also the main color in being eco-friendly is green and to not see any Green in any of the non-renewable sources shows a big point to support the argument as well as the overall discourse. Green being the way of life is a strong color that describes it, as seen on the cartoon, green is only being used with the argument on wind which I feel makes a strong effective argument in the image.

In an article from the Ecology Global Network by Eric McLamb informs, “The side effects of using fossil fuel, causes all of the problems.” With this being said it can be related to the cartoon as will as the overall discourse. By showing the one major problem it has, which is being destructive and harmful to planet Earth. The article and cartoon both use the appeal of logos, by using facts and the truth to support the discourse. It really is all about reasoning, simple but effective the article supports wind energy to be more efficient because of its compact and sleek design as well as not being harmful to humans and the Earth. Wind energy is non-polluting and this source of energy creates its own energy unlike non-renewable sources. Giving us information and assumptions about the future of energy we can see the dangers of killing our planet if we continue the use of non-renewable energy, the article does a good job in persuading the reader into scaring them and having faith in the change of increasing the use of renewable energy and decreasing the use of non-renewable sources.

Many people find and see things differently, only truth can make does people believe in what is right. The cartoon and article both are similar because they support the overall discourse; it is hard to disagree on the logic and reasoning the two have to offer. Wind energy is no doubt one of the best sources of energy ever created; if we continue to use nonrenewable energy sources a primary source we will continue to hurt our planet as well as us.
