Hey my name is Zain and this is for English 112 with professor Ravy and my essay is about domestic violence. The discourse is that people believe women are the solution to stop domestic violence. Now, that is not a bad idea, but what about all the other people that suffered from domestic violence. The point is that anyone can be effective by domestic violence and that is what my essay is about. I used two primary sources, one is “Domestic violence, past and presents”, by Anna Clark and published by Journal of Women's History and it is about how domestic violence has been a problem for many years and people just try to ignore it, hopping it will go away on it's own. We have to do something or people are going to thing it is okay to do it. The article also goes onto how men and women are affected by domestic violence. The other article is “To stop violence, start at home” by Pamela Shifman and Salamishah Tillet, published by New York Times, and this article hits the spot about where the problem is, now, it starts at home. It uses a lot of recent events where people that had a history of domestic violence and how they ended up committing mass murderer. Now, I do not believe you can my that connection. You can not say that just because one event happened that you are mostly to do the other. People that commit mass murderer are most likely will have some type of history of violence, but you can not connect mass murderer and domestic violence. The article goes far as saying that we should take guns away from everyone. This problem's solution is not to take away guns. You will just start another problem. These both article have one thing in common. Now, the authors’ solution is to put females in high power, the author stats,“representation of women in government” (Shifman), that a woman will focus more on domestic violence against a woman. This could be seen as a good solution because a woman can relate and know how it feels. They would make the punishment more severe, which would stop people from doing it again. Now, this really does not help prevent domestic violence because women are not the only ones affected by it. Anyone can be affected by domestic violence. Clark states that people should fight domestic violence together: “the community could be brought to bear on domestic violence “(Clark 9). Working as a community to point out the problem and help find a solution. The best thing to do would be to educate the youth about it and help them speak out because that is the only time we can do something. Once a domestic violence act has occurred, it is too late. Domestic violence is a problem all around the world. The only thing we can do is address the problem and give the people a save place to talk about it and make sure it never happens again.
