Stopping Domestic Violence

Violence is a learned behavior, when a person has been abused in their childhood; there are many possibilities that this person will repeat this pattern in the future transmitting violence from generation to generation. Domestic violence is a problem that is happening in many homes of the United States. Some people decide to remain silent for various reasons, either because they are afraid of their abusers or because of the lack of economic inputs. Nowadays, in these advanced times, with so many resources, we must not let this happen. We are entitled to live in an environment free of violence; we also have the right to sue any case of abuse because if you let this happen once, then it becomes a vicious cycle. What if we let this happen? Domestic violence can leave physical and psychological scars and you have to keep in mind that this not only happens to women, men can also be victims, also it affects to the entire family, Violence is an attack to the dignity of a person, an attack to his or her physical and psychological health and also to his or her freedom. According to No More (a movement to raise public awareness and engage bystanders around ending domestic violence and sexual assault) 12.7 million of people are physically abused, raped or stalked by their partners in one year. That is 24 people every minute, it could be one of my relatives, that is why I invite you to become aware of how big this problem is and know that together we can prevent it, we can save so many lives. Unfortunately many people have already died because of this. This movement educates us about this issue, they say that"everyone can play an active role in stopping domestic violence and sexual assault before it occurs by becoming an engaged bystander and helping to establish an environment where healthy and positive relationships are based on respect, safety, and equality." "Moreover, taking steps to stop harassment or violence can make a significant difference in someone’s life, and send a powerful message to the perpetrator and society as a whole about which social norms are acceptable and which are unacceptable." How to prevent domestic violence? Domestic violence should be prevented from the house, at home children should learn about principles and values, parents should set an example and try to educate their children. If the children grow in a safe environment there are big possibilities that they are not going to become abusers. In brief, domestic violence is a problem that everyone can face in their lives, people have to inform and help to the victims. Victims sometimes prefer the silence because they fear, but there is where people have to take action to make them know that their lives are in danger and they have to denounce it.Do something until it is too late, raise awareness of this big problem that this society is facing, this could be the key get a better world and to have a peaceful society. Do not keep silent because your voice is the most powerful weapon to counter family violence , please assert your rights and those of others.
