GamerGate
There are people who do not know what GamerGate is, as it has become a huge issue among gamers (such as myself), so allow me to tell you what I know. GamerGate began when a female game developer was accused of sleeping with a male game reviewer for good press, which turned out to be true, not the good press part though. People began to accuse female game developers of sexual favors for good press, and rallied together for ethical practice in gaming press. However, their practices seem to take on a different stance altogether.
GamerGate supporters have been known to send death threats and threats of sexual violence to females involved in the gaming community. This has caused the anti-GamerGate supporters to label them as anti-feminist/sexist. But is this really true, dear blog readers? Sure, there are some who are guilty of the sexual/death threats, but as a whole, the group is not for that side of the extreme. Many only want to have fair business practices in gaming, but it happens that a minority/majority have resorted to such underhanded and gross tactics. And what about the anti-GamerGate group?
While they do condemn the gross practices of the GamerGate supporters, they themselves are not much better. Ignoring the shady practices in the gaming industry (trust me, they are really shady) does not make them any better than those who strive to change the industry with terrible threats against females. But to take a huge bite out of this issue, which side is right?
The answer is.....neither. Regardless of whichever side you wish to support, the issue will still stand and nothing will be better. The true solution to this sour conflict is to be rid of it all together.
